ABOUT
Founded 1940 in response to Soviet occupation of Lithuania. First mission: protest Soviet annexation. Lobbied US government to maintain non-recognition of Soviet incorporation of Lithuania. Composed of representatives from 3 major Lithuanian-American ideological streams and 7 additional organizations. Led by Leonardo Šimutis. Organized demonstrations, published resolutions, and maintained diplomatic pressure for Lithuanian independence throughout the Cold War.
