Žiburio Lituanistinė MokyklaŽiburio Archive

Purpose and Scope

The Žiburio Archive is a cultural memory and documentation initiative of Žiburio lituanistinė mokykla (Žiburio Lithuanian Heritage School, est. 1949), located at Dievo Apvaizdos Parapija (Divine Providence Lithuanian Catholic Church), Southfield, Michigan. Žiburio lituanistinė mokykla is a member school of the Lithuanian Educational Council of the USA, part of the Lithuanian American Community, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Archive structures and catalogs Lithuanian diaspora materials — textbooks, periodicals, religious texts, and community records — for educational and research access. Access to the Archive constitutes acceptance of these terms.

Stewardship

The archival corpus — physical materials, their digital representations, and the provenance structures that give them meaning — is held in permanent cultural stewardship by Žiburio lituanistinė mokykla. These holdings are not for sale, transfer, or commercial disposition. Access is granted; ownership is not.

The CultureNet Framework

The Žiburio Archive is structured according to the CultureNet framework — a system for structuring and providing access to culturally bounded materials in ways that maintain provenance, contextual relationships, and historical integrity. CultureNet was developed for Lithuanian diaspora archives and is designed to be adapted by other cultural communities and institutions building their own archival infrastructure.

The CultureNet framework is developed and maintained by CultureNet Labs LLC. The Žiburio Archive is the originating implementation of this framework.

Permitted Use

Catalog records, structured metadata, and displayed images may be used for personal research, educational study, and scholarly citation with appropriate attribution to the Žiburio Archive. Reproduction of individual records for non-commercial academic purposes is permitted with attribution.

Restrictions

Bulk downloading, automated scraping, corpus harvesting, or systematic extraction of Archive content is not permitted. Use of Archive materials — including structured metadata, cataloging analysis, descriptive text, or images — for machine learning training, dataset construction, model fine-tuning, or any form of automated knowledge extraction requires prior written authorization from the Archive.

The structural relationships, provenance chains, entity graphs, and contextual metadata maintained within this Archive represent significant curatorial and intellectual work. Archive content is the work of Žiburio lituanistinė mokykla; the underlying structural methodology is the work of CultureNet Labs LLC. Neither may be separated from its provenance or repackaged as a dataset.

Interior page images are not published on this site. Cover and copyright page images are made available for identification and research purposes only.

Rights and Ownership

This site involves three distinct layers of intellectual property:

Source materials. All rights in the underlying archival materials — books, periodicals, documents, and artifacts — remain with their respective creators, publishers, and institutions. Copyright status is indicated on individual item records where determinable. The Archive makes no warranty as to the completeness or accuracy of copyright assessments; researchers are responsible for independent rights verification prior to any reproduction or distribution.

Archive content. Structured metadata, cataloging analysis, archival descriptions, provenance annotations, and curatorial text produced by the Archive are © Žiburio lituanistinė mokykla. This includes item-level enrichments tied to specific objects in the collection. Reproduction of Archive-produced content requires attribution.

System and framework. The CultureNet framework — including its metadata schema, entity architecture, ontology design, processing pipelines, and associated software — is the intellectual property of CultureNet Labs LLC.
