VLIK (Supreme Committee for Liberation of Lithuania)

Founded November 25, 1943 in Kaunas during Nazi occupation. VLIK represented Lithuanian sovereignty in exile, maintaining the legal fiction of Lithuanian statehood throughout the Soviet period. Operated from Tübingen and later Washington, D.C. Issued the 1944 declaration asserting Lithuanian independence. Continued operations until Lithuania restored independence in 1990.
